University Hospital of North Staffordshire staff face 800 per cent parking fee rise

The new tariff due to be launched in October replaces the current 6.11amonth rate for the 7,000 workforce. It was drawn up after plans to take 0.5 per cent of each employee basic salary to pay for parking were scrapped following a petition signed by more than 1,000 workers.

The new charges follow a review which included 2,000 workers completing a questionnaire.

Rob Irving, Unison hospital branch secretary, said: staff were encouraged by the success of their previous campaign and are so angry they will want to fight this as well. They have already had their pay frozen north face outlet stores and are facing rises in pension contributions and professional registration fees.

are only 800 spaces on the City General site for 7,000 staff and many of the bays are in poor condition. There should be no rises until the availability and quality of parking improves. of the new spaces are currently reserved for consultants who will lose out unless they pay the full price to park. The spaces will be allocated based on the demand.

The charge will be 12.50 on the redundant central outpatients department and 7.50 on the nowunused Royal Infirmary.

The hospital has 1,800 north face outlets parking spaces, with 300 more to be created when the infirmary is bulldozed later this year.

Nurses leaders fear the new structure will add to the parking nightmares for people living near the hospital.

Chris Bourne, senior steward for the Royal College of Nursing, said: can see staff illegally parking in residents permit bays and the council being bombarded with complaints.

comments below by Tinsdills Solicitors and many others including Pattsey have clearly shown that there is widespread anger and condemnation at the car parking charging at NHS hospitalsNHS hospitals in Wales and Scotland do not charge for parking. In England there are illinformed people like Lagu2 who compare people travelling by buses with people purchasing their own transport with their income as equals. Car purchase is an investment made by people for their own transport. They purchase fuel in addition and have taxes on car price and on fuel price. Build now many multi story car parks in the hospital grounds at the new site. Create 200 extra spaces than the current requirement. You will then need no parking attendants as everyone is able to park and ample extra free spaces are available at all times. You collect the remaining balance over the next 2 or 3 years from these people once more. After 3 years the Parking in the Hospital should then be free, like they have in Wales and in Scotland. Free parking would cost a few parking wardens their jobs but no one likes them anyway so that's fine. Free parking would stimulate retail and commerce and as a result would pay back into the local economy. All the council do is just rake money in to waste on stuff, none of it is well spent on programmes to support retail or commerce or fix the roads. Instead it's spent on meetings, biscuits and over inflated salaries.
